One of our favorite flooring transformations took place in the foyer. The parquet wood floors were replaced with black and white porcelain checkered tiles. These oversized diamond tiles bring a timeless touch that honors the history of this nearly 100 year old home. We love porcelain tiles because they are just as gorgeous as marble while having the added benefit of being more scratch and scuff resistant. In a high-traffic commercial zone, this kind of durability is key.

The Informal Living Room Transformation

The majority of changes in this home were cosmetic but there was one huge structural change: a hallway was created between the hall bath and informal living room. When speaking with the sisters who lived in the house, one of their biggest complaints was the lack of privacy between the restroom and the living room. To correct this, a wall was constructed between the existing restroom and the rest of the room. This also gave us the opportunity to install custom cabinetry to store trophies and memorabilia. The shaker style cabinets feature interior lighting to highlight the sisterhood’s brilliant history.

The Formal Living Room

Another big cosmetic change took place in the formal living room. The fireplace used to be framed with tiny glass tiles and a different mantle. The tiles were replaced by slabs of Carrara Marble. This change alone immediately brightened up the fireplace. The fireplace mantle was changed out for a taller option that mimicked the original millwork around the doors that frame the fireplace. The original grate remains.

The formal living room also received a special new wall treatment. Custom millwork was added all around the room, creating an elegant environment that reflected the details that were already there in the form of millwork around the doors and windows. The walls were finished in White Dove by Benjamin Moore.

While each space received its own special attention, every room was modified with new floors. Carpet was torn out of the formal and informal living rooms and replaced with engineered white oak planks. These sturdy wood floors were laid in a beautiful matte finish, meaning the scuffs and scrapes of everyday life become practically invisible.

The Sunroom Transformation

The floral carpet in the sunroom was torn out and a new navy and white crosshatched carpet that celebrates the colors of the sorority was put in its place. The gold-toned walls were swapped out for a light blue and white patterned wallpaper while the plastic blinds were replaced with woven ones that bring a more relaxed, coastal feel to the room.

The Back Hallway Transformation

Another fabulous flooring transformation took place in the back hallway. This high traffic zone went from your standard stone tiles to a contemporary herringbone-patterned brick. To soften this look, we added the Hathaway Blush & Multi Runner. Who doesn’t love a little pink in their lives? The Aspen Bench is the perfect place to stop and open mail or have a quick chat with a friend. Standard ceiling tiles were taken down and replaced with millwork-style tiles that match the energy of the room.

The Basement Transformation

The basement of this home is primarily used for studying, crafting, and hanging out. Old stone floor tiles were replaced with caramel-toned luxury vinyl tiles that are a near-perfect match for real wood. Built-in shelves were modified to include space for the TV as well as books, photos, and decor.

A custom sectional was brought in for movie nights while two Maxx Swivel Chairs create more seating space. Because there are no windows on the lower level, it was important to add color and life to the space to make it feel less like a basement. The Menowin Medallion Blue & Orange Area Rug brought so many fun tones into the room and it matches perfectly with the sectional.

From top to bottom, even we have trouble believing the incredible transformation that took place over just a few short summer months. We can’t thank our hardworking team of designers, contractors, movers, and all the people at Scout & Nimble who made this project possible.
